RISE Sunday, March 11, is part of the national campaign called Reach Isolated Seniors Everywhere. With a million Canadian seniors identifying as isolated with limited social activity, the objective of the RISE campaign is to make Canadians aware of the impact of loneliness and social isolation on older family members, friends and neighbours – and to take action.
Winter conditions can be especially difficult for the elderly and increase their risk of health problems, injuries and loneliness. At this time of year, winter seems to last forever, opportunities for socialization tend to decrease as isolation and loneliness get worse.
On the weekend of March 11 RISE Sunday, reach out to a senior…call or visit… invite them to lunch, coffee or a movie. There are dozens of ways to warm a winter’s day for a senior.
